Trunk or Treating with library & NECC

MILLERTON — Teaming up to bring the magic of Halloween into Millerton a few days early, the NorthEast-Millerton Library (NEML) and the North East Community Center’s (NECC) Teen Team Leadership Program invited local trick or treaters and their families to the first annual Community Trunk or Treat on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

Residents, businesspeople and local organizations were invited to decorate the trunks of their cars and give out candy and other treats to local little ones and even teenagers, who were invited to come to the event in costume.

Held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Harlem Valley Rail Trail parking lot on South Center Street, the event drew a handful of pre-registered cars, and trick or treaters were in the double digits.

Tricks, treats, Halloween music and community spirit abounded as local children added plenty of sweets to their goody bags as they celebrated the Halloween season with their families and friends.

North East Fire District Commissioner Joshua Schultz brought a fire engine from the Millerton Fire Company  for the occasion. NEML Youth Services Coordinator Kristin McClune also set out a table of free books for the children to browse.

Still from "The King of In between"

There is a scene in “The King of In Between,” a documentary about musician Garland Jeffreys, that shows his name as the answer to a question on the TV show “Jeopardy!”

“This moment was the film in a nutshell,” said Claire Jeffreys, the film’s producer and director, and Garland’s wife of 40 years. “Nobody knows the answer,” she continued. “So, you’re cool enough to be a Jeopardy question, but you’re still obscure enough that not one of the contestants even had a glimmer of the answer.”
