Amenia Planning Board approves Tower Hill subdivision

AMENIA — Following discussion and review of an environmental impact report, the Amenia Planning Board voted unanimously at its meeting on Wednesday, June 14, to approve a subdivision application on Tower Hill Road.

The approval cleared the way for the 165-acre parcel in an RA (Rural Agricultural) zone to be divided into three separate conventional lots for estate planning purposes, not for immediate subdivision.  An RA zone requires a minimum lot size of 10 acres. One parcel holds 44.7 acres, a second measures 86.6 acres and the third is 33.9 acres.

Summarizing the May 24 public hearing on the application, planning board engineer John Andrews said that the majority of public comments had concerned plans to pave Tower Hill Road, a proposal that was not relevant to the current application under consideration by the planning board.

“This is a simple land subdivision,” Andrews said, “without plans for development.”

Reviewing the environmental assessment, Andrews reported that the application would have no impact on the surrounding area, on traffic or on water supply. The only anticipated change would be a plan to restore 250 feet of a drainage channel.

Because some planning board members were absent, consideration of the reuse application submitted by Troutbeck and a preliminary presentation concerning development of the Keane Stud Farm property on Depot Hill Road and old Route 22 (705 acres) were postponed until the next planning board meeting to be held on Wednesday, June 28, beginning at 7 p.m.

Pennebaker, who attended The Salisbury School, was a pioneer of cinéma vérité and received an honorary Academy Award for lifetime achievement.

On Saturday, Nov. 15, the Stissing Center in Pine Plains will be host to the Hudson Valley premiere of the award-winning music documentary “Coming Home: The Guggenheim Grotto Back in Ireland.” The screening will be followed by an intimate acoustic set from Mick Lynch, one half of the beloved Irish folk duo The Guggenheim Grotto.
