Ursula Wirth

LAKEVILLE-, Conn. — Ursula Wirth, born Ursula Sachs, a long time resident of Lakeville, Connecticut, passed away on Oct. 5, 2025, in the Algarve, Portugal.

Ursula, born in Munich, Germany, on May 14, 1936, lived an extraordinary and eventful life. Leaving postwar Germany at the age of 17 to move to New York City on her own, she returned to Germany a decade later and married Heinrich Wirth an architect, who worked on projects that took him and their family of 4 to Zimbabwe and South Africa. After these assignments ended they returned to Europe for a number of years before settling in Connecticut, closer to family.

Upon arriving in the region, Ursula started teaching German at the Waldorf Lower school in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and later helped to establish the Berkshire Waldorf Highschool in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

A great source of pride was creating a vibrant student exchange program between the Waldorf school in Munich, Germany, where she had once been a student herself and the Berkshire HighSchool in Massachusetts. It was a great success and continues to this day, opening up the minds of young people on both sides of the Atlantic. She was a mentor and favorite teacher to many, over a career that spanned 20 years.

Ursula will be put to rest next to her husband in the village of Planegg near Munich. Ursula leaves behind 4 children.

Ursula’s family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Berkshire Waldorf High School to establish a scholarship fund in her memory.
