Dutchess County Sheriff's Report

The following information was provided by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office as the Harlem Valley area activity report for Sept. 28 - Oct. 4.

 

Sept. 30 — Deputies arrested one Mark J. Carlson, 17, for driving while intoxicated subsequent to a traffic stop in the area of 12 Smith St. in the Town of Pine Plains. Subject to appear in the Town of Pine Plains court at a later date.        

 

Sept. 30 — Deputies responded to the area of 19 Lake Amenia Road in Amenia for a disturbance. Investigation reveals a disturbance between a father and his daughter’s boyfriend.  Matter resolved without further police intervention.  

 

Oct. 1 — Deputies arrested Manuel Monge-Quirindumbay, 42, for driving while intoxicated subsequent to a traffic stop on Route 22 in the Town of North East. Monge-Quirindumbay is to appear in the Town of North East court at a later date.   

 

Oct. 2 — Deputies stopped a vehicle that was reported as being operated in an erratic manner on Route 199 in the Town of Pine Plains. Investigation during the stop revealed that the vehicle’s operator, identified as one Joseph D. Singman, 30, was wanted by the Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, police department for several offenses related to forgery and possessing forged instruments. Singman’s privilege to operate a motor vehicle in the state of New York was also suspended. Singman was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree and was also charged as a fugitive from justice. Singman was arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County jail, where he will wait for extradition to Pennsylvania.

Historical Society talk to explore the life and times of a Revolutionary Era loyalist

AMENIA — While the courage and perseverance of Revolutionary era patriots is well understood and celebrated, the stories of the fate of British loyalists in New York are not as clear.

Seen as the initial event in observance of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Amenia Historical Society will present a talk titled, “The Plight of a Loyalist in Revolutionary New York,” examining the journal of Cadwallader Colden, Jr., spanning the period of 1777-1779. The speaker will be noted author, genealogist and historian Jay Campbell.

Townscape raffle reaches $7K pot

Scarecrow contest planned for Millbrook’s Community Day on Sept. 20

MILLBROOK — Local crows should prepare to become highly spooked as planners of Millbrook Community Day, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20, have announced that a Scarecrow Contest will be part of the festivities.

Residents are invited to get creative and devise their own renditions of a scarecrow from traditional to whatever imagination might come up with.
