Millerton to serve up Cookie Festival March 19

MILLERTON — Sweet tooths rejoice — the village of Millerton will host its first ever Cookie Festival on Saturday, March 19. The event will offer free cookies to anyone who visits the village, courtesy of local businesses.

“The Cookie Festival on March 19 is an opportunity to do something sweet on the weekend when spring begins,” said Millerton Business Association head Dick Hermans. “It is a simple, low-cost, no-risk event that depends upon a small amount of baking. Make plans now to get your apron on and bake a batch.”

Some frequently-asked questions regarding the Cookie Festival, and their answers, follow below:

Q: Who bakes cookies?

A: Store owners, managers, staff, family and friends are all eligible to bake cookies for the festival.

Q: Are there any rules governing who can eat cookies on March 19?

A: Each business that gives away cookies gets to make up its own rules.

Q: What are Cookie Festival hours?

A: The festival begins when cookies arrive and ends when the cookies run out or when businesses close for the day.

Q: Are brownies and macaroons allowed at the Cookie Festival?

A: Yes.

Q: Should businesses worry about not having enough cookies?

A: No, this event is meant to be a trial balloon to see what happens when an idea like the Cookie Festival is floated. Any and all efforts are good. There are no expectations and no pressure. The spirit of sharing, smiling and tasting will add something good to March 19 in Millerton.

And with those sentiments, organizers are hoping plenty of area residents will drop in on Millerton on March 19.

Those planning to share cookies are asked to register beforehand at Oblong Books and Music on Main Street.
