Millerton man arrested, damages police car

Millerton — Christopher McGhee, 29, of Millerton, was arrested on Friday, April 26, at approximately 11:30 p.m. after a call to 911 was placed.“Millerton police answered a 911 dispatch to respond to South Center Street, for a fight in progress. While en route, Officer Ben Doty received updated information from the 911 center — this was a vehicle into a building,” said Millerton Police Officer in Charge David Rudin.Doty found a pickup truck had struck a residence after veering off of North Center Street.“Witnesses said that the driver of the pickup had operated in a reckless manner, struck the residence and came to rest after striking a garage structure. The operator left the accident scene and entered a nearby residence,” Rudin said.According to Rudin, Doty made numerous attempts to have McGhee exit the residence.“There was a standoff for several minutes. Officer Doty waited for backup assistance from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police. Upon arrival of the additional police units, McGhee surrendered to police,” he said.McGhee was placed in custody and put in a Millerton police car where he reportedly broke the rear passenger window by kicking it repeatedly.“Officer Doty, who was beside the window at the time, was struck by the exploding glass and received a laceration from being hit with the glass,” Rudin said.McGhee was charged with penal law charges of criminal mischief in the third degree, a Class E felony, for damage to the patrol vehicle.He was also charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree for damage to the residence, obstructing governmental administration and assault in the third degree, all misdemeanors. He was additionally charged with vehicle and traffic charges of reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, operating with a suspended registration, driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, all misdemeanors, and refusing a breath test, failing to stay in lane, and operating with no insurance, all traffic violations.“McGhee was arraigned by the Honorable Town of North East Justice John Crodelle. Judge Crodelle set bail at $5,000. McGhee will return to court on May 20 for further proceedings. There will be a DWI refusal hearing to follow at a later date,” Rudin said.

The talk marked Musso’s first speaking engagement at the Annex and coincided with the historical society’s annual meeting.

The Kearcher-Monsell Gallery at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village is once again host to a wonderful student-curated exhibition. “Once Upon a Time in America,” ten portraits by New Haven artist Katro Storm, opened on Nov. 20 and will run through the end of the year.

“This is our first show of the year,” said senior student Alex Wilbur, the current head intern who oversees the student-run gallery. “I inherited the position last year from Elinor Wolgemuth. It’s been really amazing to take charge and see this through.”

Mini horses, big impact: animal learning center opens in Sheffield

Le Petit Ranch offers animal-assisted therapy and learning programs for children and seniors in Sheffield.

Le Petit Ranch, a nonprofit offering animal-assisted therapy and learning programs, opened in April at 147 Bears Den Road in Sheffield. Founded by Marjorie Borreda, the center provides programs for children, families and seniors using miniature horses, rescued greyhounds, guinea pigs and chickens.

Borreda, who moved to Sheffield with her husband, Mitch Moulton, and their two children to be closer to his family, has transformed her longtime love of animals into her career. She completed certifications in animal-assisted therapy and coaching in 2023, along with coursework in psychiatry, psychology, literacy and veterinary skills.
