Community input sought at public meeting on Thorne Bennett project set for July 29

MILLBROOK — As plans for creating a park on the former Bennett College property and renovating the Thorne Building proceed, the Millbrook Community Partnership (MCP) is inviting the public to a meeting at the Millbrook firehouse on Thursday, July 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The event, which will be accessible online as well as in person, promises to be both informational and participatory.

MCP President Oakleigh Thorne will provide an overview of the evolution and future of both projects; MCP Treasurer George Whalen will introduce Kevin Seise of Vertex, the firm that has been retained to oversee the Bennett Park project; and architect Michael Sloan will present his plans for the revitalized Thorne Building Community Center.  

After each presentation, questions from the public will be encouraged. 

“We are excited by the progress we are making with both projects, and we are eager to get the public’s input at this early stage,” said Thorne.

To stay safe, all unvaccinated people who plan to attend the meeting at the firehouse must wear masks; individuals who are vaccinated may do so if they wish.

$13 million boost for Sharon Hospital

SHARON, Conn. — Sharon Hospital will receive $13.1 million in federal funding to expand care for older residents, improve access to specialists and establish an outpatient rehabilitation facility outside its campus.

Gov. Ned Lamont announced Sept. 16 that the award is part of $50 million in first-year agreements finalized by the Connecticut Department of Social Services under the Rural Health Transformation Program.

VILLAGE OF MILLERTON­­ — Mark Edward Peck, 70, a lifelong area resident died peacefully at his childhood home in Millerton, New York, just as his beloved father had several years prior. Mark worked as a self-employed roofing contractor for MCM Construction in Millerton, prior to his illness.

Born June 5, 1956, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Alan G. and S. Jean (Bathrick) Peck. He was educated in the Webutuck School District and he graduated high school with the class of 1974. On Sept. 22, 1984 in Copake Falls, New York, he married the love of his life, Jane E. Robertson. Mrs. Peck survives at home in Millerton.
