MILLERTON —  On Saturday, Nov. 4, from 2 to 5 p.m., McEnroe Organic Farm will host a fundraising Shindig rain or shine  at its store at 5409 Route 22.

The event, which supports the future of climate-resilient farming, will feature a farm-to-table meal, square dancing, performance artists, local beer and wine, a silent auction and environmental education.

Performance artists Sage Dugan, playing a hapless scarecrow with a fear of crows; interactive performer Fritz Donnelly; and Megan Sipe of Chocolate Dances will entertain the crowd with agriculture-, composting- and sustainability-related acts and facts.

Hayride tours of the compost facility are also envisioned, which may be more weather-dependent.

All proceeds from the Shindig will support McEnroe Organic Farm’s mission, which is, according to its statement, to recycle 8,000 cubic yards of food waste, equivalent to 200 school buses; to divert food waste from landfills to support a constellation of 800 farms in the Northeast; and to host free, accessible public workshops, events and apprenticeships focused on composting and conservation.

Tickets begin at $10 and are available at the door as well as online. A link to tickets and more information can be found at facebook.com/mcenroeorganicfarm.

Koi harvest

The “Elusive Ki Shusui” koi were temporarily relocated into a tub before being returned to their home pond at Maxine Pietro’s annual koi harvest at Broccoli Hall Farm in Amenia on Friday, Oct. 10. Speaking of their yellowish beauty, Pietro is pictured pointing out that the fish are scaleless but for scales that grow along the “zipper” on each fish’s dorsal ridge. The koi in the photo are estimated to be 6 or 7 years old.
