Millerton man faces extradition charges

Millerton Police Department Officer in Charge David Rudin was on patrol Saturday, May 4, when he observed a motorcycle without a license plate and the operator of the vehicle without a helmet.“A vehicle stop was made on South Maple Avenue and the driver was identified as William F. Bero, 27, of Millerton,” Rudin said.According to Rudin a license check of Bero revealed he was wanted on a felony larceny warrant from Bridgeport Police Department in Bridgeport, Conn.“Bridgeport police confirmed that this was an active warrant and they wished to extradite Bero from New York,” Rudin said.Rudin prepared a Felony Fugitive from Justice Complaint, and Bero was arraigned on that complaint by the Honorable Town of North East Justice John Crodelle.“The local justice court does not have jurisdiction over felonies including Fugitive from Justice Complaints, so Judge Crodelle remanded Bero to the Dutchess County Jail without bail,” Rudin said.Bero was scheduled to appear before a Dutchess County Court judge on Monday, May 6.“He will be arraigned once again. Bero can choose to fight extradition or waive extradition to Connecticut, but all proceedings will be held at the county court level. Bail can be set at the discretion of the county judge,” Rudin said.
