Pine Plains Bombers turn early lead into 30-point win

MILLBROOK — The Pine Plains girls varsity basketball squad brought their “A”-game to the Millbrook High School gym Friday, Jan. 17.

The Pine Plains Bombers were hot on the court despite the cold temps outside the gym, securing a commanding lead in the first quarter that led to a 53-23 victory over the Millbrook Blazers.

The Bombers’ Nevaeh Rennie, no. 34 of Pine Plains, led in scoring across the board with a total of 23 points — 18 from field goals and 5 from the free throw line.

Blazdrs top scorer Lydia Kascak, no. 21 of Millbrook, put up 3 baskets and made 3 free throws for a total of 9 points throughout the night.

Millbrook showed composure at the free throw line. The squad was 7-7 at the free throw line overall. That composure couldn’t save them against the Bombers’ shooting.

Pine Plains played a much faster paced game than Millbrook, racking up a 31-8 lead by halftime.

Millbrook picked up their pace in the second half, and defended against Pine Plains enough to reduce the scoring deficits by a few points. The Bombers still out scored Millbrook in the second half by 10 points, despite the Blazers’ best efforts.

In the winter, my 12 year-old hockey skates never leave my trunk, on the chance I’ll pass some gleaming stretch of black ice on a roadside pond.
