A bit of the ‘West Side Story’ told at Marona’s

MILLBROOK — David Bean, an actor and dancer on stage and screen, played  the character of Tiger in the original  film “West Side Story” in 1961. He made his comeback with a cameo appearance in director Steven Spielberg’s movie adaptation of the classic story with the 2021 version of “West Side Story” this year.

On Saturday, Dec. 18, Bean was at Marona’s Market in Millbrook signing copies of his new book, “When You’re a Jet,” which promises to be lively, funny and at times poignant.

The book is the story of an active and richly lived life, which Bean spent here, in London and wherever fate took him, on stage in more than 700 theatrical performances and on screen.

The actor can often be found at Jeannie Bean’s and Family, a restaurant in nearby Clinton Corners. The business is a family enterprise, he said.

Fans can look for Bean these days at Jeannie Bean’s and at other book signings and appearances around the Hudson Valley.

Tangled Lines: Casting into depths at dawn

PRATTSVILLE, N.Y. — The Schoharie Creek, a fabled Catskill trout stream, has suffered mightily in recent decades.

Between pressure from human development around the busy and popular Hunter Mountain ski area, serious flooding, and the fact that the stream’s east-west configuration means it gets the maximum amount of sunlight, the cool water required for trout habitat is simply not as available as in the old days.
