Fire destroys Millerton Water Department building

The North East Fire Department began battling the blaze at the Millerton Water Department around 3:41 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3.

MILLERTON — The Millerton Water Department caught fire in the early hours of the morning Monday, Feb. 3. Fire Chief Keith Roger said responders from the Millerton Fire Company and the North East Fire Department began battling the blaze at approximately 3:41 a.m. By daylight, a skeleton of a building was all that remained of the structure. The cause of the fire was under investigation at press time.


The charred remains of the water department building in Millerton were all that remained of the structure after a devastating fire in the early morning on Monday, Feb. 3.

I just put the skeletons away — literally — into their neatly labeled Halloween plastic bins, along with the faux cobwebs, flickering lanterns and haunted houses that feature tiny tea lights. As I closed the lid, I found myself eyeing — albeit hesitantly — the Christmas décor.
