MILLERTON — Community members are welcome to attend the new homeowners’ and Habitat for Humanity’s ground-breaking ceremony at 140 Rudd Pond Road in Millerton on Sept. 4 at 4 p.m.

Board members, elected officials, residents, and people of the community are asked to show support for the Macagnone’s and help them get a sense of the town. With the affordable housing initiative, they can afford this ranch-style house at 30% of their income, an incredible comparison to the 50% they have been used to.

The Macagnone is a family of four, with two children, a 15-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter, who attend Webutuck School District. The family is expected to move in by the end of November, with the hopes of getting them to spend the holidays at their new home.

Habitat for Humanity representatives will attend and have a few surprises for the community that “you won’t know about until you get there.”

The house will be built on a half-acre plot of land and will be approximately 1,400 square feet. Within the house, there will be three bedrooms and two bathrooms to complete the ranch-style home.

Habitat for Humanity is still looking for volunteers throughout the process of building the home for the Macagone family. To volunteer, go to www.habitatdutchess.org/volunteer/ and look under “construction volunteer opportunities.” You must be 16 years old to participate.
