Community invited to join Habitat ground-breaking​

Habitat for Humanity is still looking for volunteers throughout the process of building the home on Rudd Pond Road near Gay Road. The lot has been cleared.

MILLERTON — Community members are welcome to attend the new homeowners’ and Habitat for Humanity’s ground-breaking ceremony at 140 Rudd Pond Road in Millerton on Sept. 4 at 4 p.m.

Board members, elected officials, residents, and people of the community are asked to show support for the Macagnone’s and help them get a sense of the town. With the affordable housing initiative, they can afford this ranch-style house at 30% of their income, an incredible comparison to the 50% they have been used to.

The Macagnone is a family of four, with two children, a 15-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter, who attend Webutuck School District. The family is expected to move in by the end of November, with the hopes of getting them to spend the holidays at their new home.

Habitat for Humanity representatives will attend and have a few surprises for the community that “you won’t know about until you get there.”

The house will be built on a half-acre plot of land and will be approximately 1,400 square feet. Within the house, there will be three bedrooms and two bathrooms to complete the ranch-style home.

Let them eat cake: ‘Kings of Pastry’ screens at The Norfolk Library

The Norfolk Library will screen the acclaimed documentary “Kings of Pastry” on Friday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. The film will be introduced by its producer, Salisbury resident Flora Lazar, who will also take part in a Q&A following the screening.

Directed by legendary documentarians D.A. Pennebaker (“Don’t Look Back,” “Monterey Pop”) and Chris Hegedus (“The War Room”), “Kings of Pastry” offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the prestigious Meilleurs Ouvriers de France (Best Craftsmen of France) competition, a prestigious national award recognizing mastery across dozens of trades, from pastry to high technology. Pennebaker, who attended The Salisbury School, was a pioneer of cinéma vérité and received an honorary Academy Award for lifetime achievement.

A night of film and music at The Stissing Center

On Saturday, Nov. 15, the Stissing Center in Pine Plains will be host to the Hudson Valley premiere of the award-winning music documentary “Coming Home: The Guggenheim Grotto Back in Ireland.” The screening will be followed by an intimate acoustic set from Mick Lynch, one half of the beloved Irish folk duo The Guggenheim Grotto.

The film’s director, Will Chase, is an accomplished and recognizable actor with leading and supporting roles in “Law & Order,” “The Good Wife,” “Rescue Me,” “Nashville,” “The Deuce,” “Stranger Things” and “Dopesick.” After decades of acting on television and on Broadway, Chase decided to take the plunge into directing his own short films and documentaries.
