MILLERTON —A man has been taken into custody and transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie after a multi-hour standoff with Dutchess County Sheriff’s Monday, June 9.
Garrett O’Holloran, 32, was taken into custody and is currently receiving medical care from Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital.
Deputies responded to a residence in Amenia around 12:40 p.m. Monday to perform a welfare check on a man living at the residence. The man was not home at the time but deputies learned he was in the woods near the intersection of Route 199 and Route 22 south of the Village of Millerton.
The man allegedly had fired a gunshot into the air “as a warning to those looking for him,” Sheriff’s Captain John Watterson said in a press release.
County deputies, state police and the North East Fire Department set up a perimeter around the area. O’Holloran was taken into custody after several hours of negotiation.
The investigation is still ongoing and criminal charges are possible, the sheriff’s office said in a release.
