Battle of Books library golf tournament July 27

MILLERTON/AMENIA — Fans of local library services and the game of golf are in luck. There is still time to register for what will be the 4th annual Millerton-Amenia golf tournament scheduled for Saturday, July 27, beginning at 4 p.m. The deadline to register, however, is Friday, July 19.

“It’s a good way for Millerton and Amenia to get together in a friendly rivalry,” said Avery Wickwire, who has served NorthEast-Millerton Library as a library clerk since 2022. “No matter the outcome, everyone has a good time,” he added.

Play is in foursomes with two players from each town playing “scramble” rules. Each player in the duo tees off, but the better of the two drives determines the duo’s ball placement for the next stroke. The player whose drive was wanting, either in distance or direction, can place a ball one club length from the better ball’s location, but no closer to the hole. The system continues for the remainder of the hole.

The “Battle for Books” tournament will be held at the nine-hole Undermountain Golf Course, Copake. Proceeds will benefit the Amenia Free Library and the North-East-Millerton Library. To register, phone (518) 329-4444 or to register on-line, go to undermountaingolf.com/league-event-schedules
