PINE PLAINS — The latest addition to The Stissing Center’s (TSC) Video of the Week series included an original performance by Al Olender recorded on Friday, March 5.

In an email sent out to the community last week, TSC’s Executive Director Brian Keeler said Olender first came to the regional performing arts center last summer to shoot an episode of “The Chair Series.”

Located on Route 199 in Pine Plains, The Stissing Center has continued to offer virtual performances throughout the coronavirus pandemic so artists can continue working and audiences can continue to be entertained.

In January, Olender joined performer James Felice for a duet as part of its “Extra Takes” series, a performance that soon became one of the most popular videos produced by The Stissing Center so far, according to Keeler.

For the recent performance, Olender debuted her original song, “Remember When We Could Touch,” which can now be viewed on the YouTube channel, “The Stissing Center.”

Our visit to Hancock Shaker Village

The Stone Round Barn at Hancock Shaker Village.

My husband Tom, our friend Jim Jasper and I spent the day at Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. A cold, blustery wind shook the limbs of an ancient apple tree still clinging to golden fruit. Spitting sleet drove us inside for warmth, and the lusty smells of manure from the goats, sheep, pigs and chickens in the Stone Round Barn filled our senses. We traveled back in time down sparse hallways lined with endless peg racks. The winter light was slightly crooked through the panes of old glass. The quiet life of the Shakers is preserved simply.
