Millbrook Rotary ready for New Year's celebration

Months of imaginative planning by the Rotary Club of Millbrook and the Millbrook Arts Group have brought about the annual town-wide celebration known as New Year’s Eve Millbrook, with family-worthy activities this year to be divided between Lyall Community Church and Grace Church.

Between 4 and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, residents and visitors will select from a variety of activities and enjoy lots of music, all while engaging with one another as community members. And there will be food.

The Larry Ham Quartet will swing jazz repertoire, and noted composer Philippe Treuille will offer classical selections. The After Five sextet will perform an eclectic mix of jazz, Motown, blues, swing, pop, Latin and more.

Children will be encouraged to participate in the Grumbling Gryphons theatrical experience as that company performs “Trickster Coyote: How Coyote Brought Fire to the Plains Indians.”

Other family activities to amuse the kids will include face painting, a balloon art demonstration, and a bubble bus.

And there will be an array of food provided by the VFW and local eateries. Crepes Royale have been specified, just to give an idea of the promising fare.

Tickets are available now for a suggested donation of $5 at Reardon Briggs Hardware, Merritt Bookstore and Village Wine and Spirits. Or, tickets can be purchased at the event by visiting a table outside of the Thorne Center.

More than 21 local businesses and individual donors have contributed so far to support the community-wide celebration designed to welcome the new year with family fellowship, fun, music and a bit of magic.

Vincent Inconiglios brings ‘Face Time’ to Hunt Library
Artist Vincent Inconiglio’s show “Face Time” opens Oct. 25 at the Hunt Library.
L. Tomaino

Abstract artist Vincent Inconiglios' love and enthusiasm for color and form are evident all around him at his Falls Village studio, where he has worked for 25 years. He is surrounded by paintings large and small, woodcuts, photographs, collages and arrays of found objects.

The objects Inconiglios has found while out walking — in Falls Village, near his studio on Gansevoort Street in New York City, and in other places throughout the world — hold special importance to him. Appreciation of them, he says, comes from “seeing while exploring. I am always finding things.” His particular delight is finding objects that look like faces, many of which will be featured in the ArtWall show at the Hunt Library.
