FALLS VILLAGE — The Memorial Day observance on the town Green was a short but sun-drenched ceremony that brought out a sizable crowd for the particularly small town.

In lieu of the Lee H. Kellogg school band, children of all ages made their way down Main Street, following behind Sophie Allen, who waved to onlookers from high above on her stilts. Fire trucks and a line-up of vintage vehicles were also present.

The service was held by The Falls Village Inn, where the traditional flowered wreaths were placed by the small monument dedicated to the memory of fallen soldiers from the town. Led by First Selectman Henry Todd, Selectman Greg Marlowe and Selectman (and Housatonic Youth Service Bureau board member) Dave Barger, that message of this Memorial Day morning was not only an appreciation for our veterans, but an acknowledgement of the local impact and legacy they had left behind.

“Service means sacrifice, even if that sacrifice means one’s own life,” Barger said in his speech. “The impact of this sacrifice ripples through our communities, even one as small as ours. When their stories are shared, these men and women become part of the identity of our hometown.”
