BANTAM, Conn. — Catherine Jazzo, 77, of Bantam, Connecticut, passed away Nov. 18, 2024, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital surrounded by her family.

Catherine was born Jan. 6, 1947, in Yonkers, New York, to the late Joseph and Edythe (Parry) Jazzo.

She was a volunteer EMT and firefighter for the Kent Volunteer Fire Department. She later pursued a career as a paramedic. In 1999 she relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she was employed as a security guard until her retirement in 2013.

She is survived by her son Christopher (June) Shine, daughters Sharon (Mark) Shine and Michelle (James) O’Sullivan, her three grandchildren, Andrew (Fara) Shine, James and Andrea O’Sullivan and a bonus grandson Liam Sweeney and siblings Joseph and Alice, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Barbara Leslie.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Andrews Parish in Kent, on Dec. 7, at 10:30 am with a reception to follow at the Fife and Drum Inn, Kent, Connecticut.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kent Community Fund at PO Box 262, Kent, CT 06757 or the Oliver Wolcott Library at PO Box 187, Litchfield, CT 06759.

The Kenny Funeral Home has care of arrangements.

STANFORD — Nearly 3,000 flags covered the hillside at Stanford Recreation Park as hundreds of people gathered for the town’s annual ceremony honoring those killed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Residents from across the region attended the ceremony, along with veterans groups and fire and rescue crews from Stanford, Millbrook, Amenia, Pine Plains and West Clinton.

AMENIA — After an extensive renovation, Bean Bank Coffee has transformed the former Bank of Millbrook branch at Freshtown Plaza into a coffee shop and bakery serving Amenia and the surrounding community.

The business began its gradual opening Monday, Aug. 24, serving coffee and tea through its drive-through window and drawing curiosity from passersby. By Monday, Sept. 7, Bean Bank Coffee was fully open for business.

AMENIA — New York Philharmonic organist and acclaimed choral director Kent Tritle will bring his lively, personable and intimate performance style to The Smithfield Church in Amenia on Saturday, Sept. 19. A highlight of the area’s performance season, the 3 p.m. concert will benefit the Oratorio Society of New York, where Tritle serves as Music Director.

This will be the 14th annual organ recital Tritle has performed on the Smithfield Church’s historic 1893 Johnson and Son tracker organ, meticulously restored and moved from its original location at the First Congregational Church in Kent, Conn.

AMENIA — Students returning to Webutuck Elementary School this fall were greeted by a new principal, Audrey Feliciano, who said improving attendance and strengthening partnerships with families will be among her priorities.

Feliciano, who replaces Amanda Coppola, began the job Tuesday, Sept. 1, and welcomed students for their first day of classes Tuesday, Sept. 8. She started the morning with a program for students from prekindergarten through the upper grades, joining teachers in leading exercises designed to prepare them for the school year.
