ANCRAM — The scenic Ancram Overmountain Conservation Area was alive with the sound of funk as the Columbia Land Conservancy (CLC) partnered with Sustain Music and Nature to offer local residents a hike and concert with the Americana funk band, Twisted Pine, on a rather soggy Saturday afternoon, July 17.

For the hike portion of the event, the CLC led the hearty hikers on a heart-pumping but beautiful walk around the Overmountain Conservation Area, located at 503 Carson Road in Ancram, at 2 p.m.

An acoustic concert starring Twisted Pine followed at 3 p.m., giving attendees enough time to catch their breath and pull up a seat on the grass as they listened to some homegrown music after an invigorating hike.

As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
