AMENIA — The Amenia Town Hall Theater will host three performances of “Amenia’s Spycatcher,” scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21, Saturday, Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. Admission is free. Reservations are required.
The historical drama has been written by local resident George Bistransin chronicling the lives of Revolutionary Era residents Ephraim and Mary Paine during the years between 1777 and 1785. The play is based on “Grandmother’s Spy,” a story penned by a Paine descendant, who detailed how Mary Paine captured a man she believed to be a British spy. The play is created as a presentation of local history that promises to be entertaining for all.
Both Ephraim and Mary Paine are buried in the Old Amenia Burying Ground on Mygatt Road.
The production is sponsored by the Amenia Historical Society and supported by a Dutchess County Rev250 grant.
