Town Board awards contracts for new town garage project

AMENIA — Progress on construction of the new town garage and salt shed continued as the Town Board approved expenditures at its regular meeting on Thursday, Oct. 16.

Now in its pre-construction phase, the town garage project received 11 bids for preliminary grading and site preparation work. By unanimous vote, the Town Board approved the bid of $227,281 as recommended by CPL Architects and Engineers for the project and awarded the contract to the lowest bidder, William J. Keller and Sons Construction of Castleton, New York.

In other action related to the town garage project, the Town Board unanimously voted to acquire required services of an inspector to oversee the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. The plan requires weekly inspections. Three proposals were received, with Rennia Engineering Design of Dover Plains submitting the successful low rate of $250 per week after an initial payment of $1,600.

Public hearing on budget

The annual public hearing on the preliminary budget for 2026 was scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Town Hall, beginning at 7 p.m.The proposed budget is posted on the town website.

MILLERTON — A Main Street apartment building that has been vacant since a carbon monoxide scare in January is being auctioned off following the property’s foreclosure.

The residential apartment building at 7-9 Main St. will be sold at an auction on Monday, Oct. 26, at 2:30 p.m. in the rear lobby of the Dutchess County Courthouse in Poughkeepsie.

SHARON, Conn. — After closing its counter at Sharon Farm Market on Oct. 3, Jam Food Shop announced it will open a new location in Sharon as well as a shop in Salisbury.

Owner Colin Kennedy described the announcement as a “plot twist.” He had previously said the popular local deli would leave Sharon and move to Salisbury, but now plans to operate a shop in each town.

Amenia — Maureen A. Moore, 79, a longtime resident of Amenia, NY, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026 at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT. Maureen worked as a registered nurse at Taconic Developmental Disabilities Office in Wassaic, NY for 40 years retiring in 2008.

Born on August 12, 1947 in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Quinlan and Jean (Martin) Quinlan. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School Class of 1965 in Poughkeepsie, NY and Villanova University School of Nursing in Villanova, PA. On October 5, 1975 in Hyde Park, NY, she married Norman Moore who survives at home.

Fred was born on April 22, 1937, in Canaan, Connecticut, to Augusta Bagnaschi and Frederick Reel. Following Augusta’s passing, Fred and his siblings were raised by their aunt, Dorothy Wilson.
