The Smithfield Church Chamber Orchestra performed its traditional Spring Pops Concert on Saturday, June 1. Director Matt Finley organized the event as part of the Bang Family Concert Series. The 14-member ensemble wowed the audience with a rousingly varied program.

Heath is inheriting a capable highway crew

I recently read the comments attributed to newly appointed North East Highway Superintendent Avery Heath in your article about his appointment. One statement in particular caught my attention:“I believe that the person coming into the job should know what the job entails.”

I have to admit, I agree with him. In fact, I think that is an excellent standard. So let’s talk about the people who already know what the job entails.

No sign of slowdown in Pine Plains housing market

Built in 1820, this house at 303 Mount Ross Road illustrates how Pine Plains housing prices have risen since the pandemic. It sold for $540,000 in 2021 and for $800,000 this year.

PINE PLAINS — The 12-month trailing median price for a single-family home in the Town of Pine Plains was $528,750 for the period ending Aug. 31, 2026.

The figure marks a 2% increase from the $520,000 median recorded for the 12 months ending Aug. 31, 2025, and a 48% jump from $357,000 for the comparable period ending Aug. 31, 2024. Single family median home prices started rising sharply in Pine Plains at the beginning of last summer. For the last 12 months, median home prices have remained above $500,000.

Synthetic fabrics also shed microplastics when washed.
