By resolution dated July 29, 2024, the Amenia Fire District has approved a resolution, subject to permissive referendum, to utilize reserve funds to purchase a Hose Reel Service Truck in the amount of up to $650,000.00, utilizing funds from the Capital Reserve Fund. Any person desiring a mandatory vote on the issue must file a properly executed and sufficient petition within thirty days of the date of publication of this notice.

PUBLIC HEARING

NOTICE IS HEREBY

GIVEN that a public hearing will be held before the Zoning Board of Appeals of the Town of North East, Dutchess County, New York, on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 7:30 PM, or soon thereafter as possible, in the Town Hall, 19 North Maple Avenue, Millerton, New York, on the application of Thomas and Catherine Moore, owners of tax parcel # 7273-00-170932, for a reduction of the required west side yard in order to erect garage/studio building. The parcel is located at 127 White House Crossing Road in the A5A Zoning District of the Town of North East. The above application is open for inspection at the Town Hall.

NOTICE is hereby given that sealed bids for the purchase of supplies used by the Amenia Highway Department during the year will be received until 2 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024 at the Town Clerk’s Office, Town of Amenia, Town Hall, 4988 Route 22, Amenia, NY 12501 and opened and read at the Amenia Town Hall, 4988 Route 22, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 10:30 a.m.

Bids are requested for the following road materials: Bank-run, sand, Item #4, crushed quarry stone and washed gravel, light, medium, and heavy stone fill, sub base NYS DOT Type #2, calcium chloride, bituminous mix hot and cold, road oils, concrete, catch basins and equipment rentals, Tree Work, Sweeping.

Detailed specifications may be obtained at the Highway office at 845-373-9922. All bids must include a notarized non-collusive statement and corporate bidders must file a corporate resolution with a corporate seal. All envelopes must be clearly marked “Bid 9/19/2024 to 9/18/2025”.

The Town Board reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids. Bids will be awarded at the next scheduled Town Board Meeting September 19, 2024.

On Thursday, Oct. 30, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., the Norfolk Library will host a free public screening of “Tiananmen Tonight,” a film by Bestor Cram and Michael Streissguth about the 1989 student uprising in China and the daring coverage by Dan Rather and CBS. Director Cram will introduce the film.

A documentary filmmaker whose life was forged in the fire of Vietnam, where he served as a Marine, Cram earned the Navy Commendation Medal. He returned home to become a conscientious objector and leader of Vietnam Veterans Against the War. After working in the MIT Film Studies Program, he founded Northern Light Productions in Boston, producing media for museums, and has made more than 30 feature documentary films.

Abstract artist Vincent Inconiglios' love and enthusiasm for color and form are evident all around him at his Falls Village studio, where he has worked for 25 years. He is surrounded by paintings large and small, woodcuts, photographs, collages and arrays of found objects.

The objects Inconiglios has found while out walking — in Falls Village, near his studio on Gansevoort Street in New York City, and in other places throughout the world — hold special importance to him. Appreciation of them, he says, comes from “seeing while exploring. I am always finding things.” His particular delight is finding objects that look like faces, many of which will be featured in the ArtWall show at the Hunt Library.
